The BVS&A
FAQ
What’s the Social and Environmental Exchange?
BOVESPA thinks Stock Exchanges are essentially value-creating environments as they foster the meeting of corporations looking for financial funds and investors willing to provide them. In such environment, corporations become stronger and, in return, give back investments with profits and dividends.
In line with such analogy, the BVS&A was introduced by BOVESPA and its Brokerage Firms as an initiative designed to raise funds to NGOs through the reproduction of a Stock Exchange environment. The idea here is to bring together Nongovernmental Organizations that require financial resources and investors (donors) willing to provide them. The BVS&A is s world pioneering program.
By
purchasing stocks
from the BVS&A-listed projects, you’ll become not only a social and environmental investor but also will have the guarantee that 100% of the donations will be transferred to the project you select.
The donations are carefully coordinated by BOVESPA, which ensures a safe and transparent process from the selection of the listed NGOs to the deployment of each project.
How does the BVS&A work?
Those Nongovernmental Organizations with Educational and Environmental projects can fill out an Enrollment Form available on this web site to send their proposals. There are no deadlines for the project submission. A group of social and environmental project experts will then review all the proposals and coordinate a selective process that will result in the potential listing of NGOs with BVS&A.
Individuals or corporations can single out, among the listed projects, those in line with their social and environmental investment concepts and then
acquire stocks
from one or more projects.
How can I make an investment on the social and environmental project I chose to support?
After selecting the project you are willing to support, it is necessary to decide how much you are going to invest. You can pay only with your Visa credit card.
How are funds transferred to the NGOs?
All the funds raised by BVS&A are fully transferred to the listed projects without any kind of fee, deduction or discount. BOVESPA is responsible for all the costs related to the communications, advertisement, operational support, web site maintenance and the payment of experts’ and consultants’ fees.
Can I use my Visa credit card safely?
The BVS&A’s web site uses Microsoft technology and provides the same security features present on the best e-commerce web sites. Additionally, it also operates in cooperation with Visa so that your electronic transaction can be entirely secure.
How can I follow the evolution of my social and environmental investments?
You can follow your investments and the progress of the project you’ve selected through this web site in the section “Track Your Donation”, where you are granted with up-to-date information on the NGOs and their social and environmental projects.
Will the BVS&A keep or use my data?
Under no circumstance will BVS&A use your data for any purpose whatsoever such as to send mails, e-mails or spamming. All the electronic operations carried out on our web site are kept only for evidence purpose, and such data are provided with absolute confidentiality.
How does the BVS&A transfer the funds to organizations?
The funds from your
investments
are fully transferred without the deduction of any fee, commission or value whatsoever. BOVESPA will pay for all the operating costs from such transactions. Therefore, 100% of your money invested is transferred to the social and environmental project you’ve selected.
There is a timeline available for all the BVS&A-listed projects divided into stages. Every time there are funds enough to conduct at least one given full stage, the funds are released and invested under the supervision by the BVS&A technical team.
Is my donation income-tax deductible?
This is not available yet, but the BVS&A is working on offering tax advantages to foreign donors, according to their Internal Revenue Codes. Therefore, donations for charitable ends could be deducted from personal and corporate income taxes.
What is the
social and environmental profit
?
In principle, all the investments must provide investors with profits and dividends. Every time you make an investment, such as in stocks, you expect yields from your money and that your investment will be worthwhile.
The BVS&A thinks your
social and environmental investments
are also able to generate profit -
social and environmental profits
. By
purchasing the stocks
from the BVS&A- listed projects,
social and environmental investors
can strengthen NGOs and directly take part in the construction of a fairer society and a more protected environment. That’s what we call
social and environmental profit
.
Will the funds raised through the donations be invested on the market?
No. No donation made through the BVS&A will be invested on the stock market. All the donations will be deposited in a specific bank account and will remain there until the NGO raises 100% of the funds required for the project or at least for a given stage of the project.
The words
social and environmental investment, social and environmental stock, social and environmental stock exchange and social and environmental profit
are wordplays and an allusion to the traditional Stock Exchange.
Can I sell my
social and environmental stocks
in the future?
No,
social and environmental stocks
are not negotiable papers and, as a result, cannot be traded later. They are just a donation unit of the Environmental and Social Investment Exchange.
